OSHA and NFPA Requirements
OSHA 1910.134
OSHA 1910.134 states that any workplace that requires respiratory protection for its employees will have those equipment needs (products and services) fulfilled by the employer. This requirement went into effect on November 22, 2006.
NFPA 1981
NFPA 1981 is the Standard for Open Circuit Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus for Fire and Emergency Services. This standard has undergone several changes that have had a significant impact on SCBA used by fire personnel. The changes from the 2013 Edition went into effect for all units manufactured after August 2013.
NFPA 1982
NFPA 1982 is the Standard on Personal Alert Safety Systems (PASS) that initially became effective in December 2006. This standard provides requirements for audible devices that signal for aid if a fire fighter becomes incapacitated while operating at an emergency. The Tentative Interim Amendment (TIA) went into effect on December 21, 2016, for all PASS devices manufactured after this date.
